Look out world, we've started a blog

Full disclosure, this is blog number four for me and blog number one for Joe. Ellie, unfortunately, doesn't have opposable thumbs, which is clearly the only thing holding her back from starting a blog.

Unlike my other blogs (first one was political, second one was purely food/alcohol related, third was... a secret) this blog involves me as an "adult" with all of the adultiness that comes with it. What does that mean? It means I'm no longer writing about just myself (*gasp*) but am writing about my family (aww) and the things we enjoy most: eating, traveling, and lounging.

Where are we now?

Currently, I am at work. I work for an independent school for at-risk youth through the Teach For America program. Currently, Joe is in Hawaii visiting his family before venturing on to Thailand to visit his sister who has been teaching there since February. Joe will be relaying posts to me and I will be posting. Currently, Ellie is at home, probably chewing on one of Joe's socks.

Why should you care?

Don't, do. Up to you! We will post about our adventures solo, as a couple, and as a threesome (with the puppy in tow, you sickos). We will be posting about food, primarily plant-based foods. For us, the "plant-based" diet is more than a trend. Personally, I rarely eat meat (pun intended). When I met Joe more than 5 years ago, he was strictly meat and potatoes. However, when he moved in, I was the cook and controlled the diet. Then, I got an emergency gallbladder removal in 2015 two weeks before we hiked Machu Picchu. As a result, I started to cut out some of the heavier foods in my diet (cheesecake, I miss you). In 2016, Joe got sick and we discovered that, not only is he lactose intolerant, but he is incredibly allergic to gluten. Since we were already only eating fish, not eating dairy, and now not consuming gluten, Joe suggested we try veganism. The vegan, gluten-free diet is the only diet that has helped us end the digestive discomfort and issues we had been putting up with for years. Though we advocate primarily for a plant-based diet, the truth is we love food. We have friends in the food industry, we have amazing chefs in our families, and we love to experience the cuisines of the cultures we travel to. Therefore, that being said, not every single food item we post will be plant-based. So don't judge us.

What's next?

You will be hearing from me in San Diego, and you can expect lots of brunch and meal preps. You will be seeing pictures of Ellie who will be accompanying me at all times while Joe is away on his adventure. You will be hearing from Joe in Thailand. THEN, look forward to a weekend trip to Seattle in November, potentially and hopefully Portland as well, with the puppy in tow. THEN, look forward to Japan in December as Joe and I travel solo for a week until we are joined by his family to celebrate Christmas. That should hold you over until the end of 2017.

Thank you for joining us, and I hope you enjoy!
